NGO/Charities Media Simulation
Media training and simulation is essential for NGOs and charities in operating today's dynamic communication landscape. As organisations committed to addressing social issues and pushing for change, they need the right skills to convey their messages to the public and stakeholders
Media training provides staff and volunteers with the skills and confidence needed to engage with journalists, communicate key messages clearly, and navigate potentially challenging interactions.
Through simulated scenarios, participants can practice responding to various media inquiries and crises in a controlled environment, allowing them to refine their messaging and crisis management techniques.
One key reason why media training and simulation are crucial for NGOs and charities is the need to protect their reputation and credibility.
In the age of social media and instant news dissemination, a single misstep or miscommunication can have significant consequences.
By equipping staff and volunteers with media training, organizations can minimize the risk of misunderstandings or damaging publicity.
Through simulated exercises, participants can learn how to stay on message, handle tough questions sensitively, and effectively manage crises to mitigate reputational harm.

UK-Med
This frontline humanitarian medical NGO conducted a major exercise to help medics prepare for an earthquake disaster - and Crown Media were called on to create the media environment.
Our teams produced a news bulletin setting out early reports of the massive earthquake and the initial consequences. The news report made sure that everybody involved in the training was brought up to speed with the scenario.
Throughout the day of the exercise our journalists interviewed various exercise participants on what was happening and how UK-Med was going to help. Each interview was incorporated into a special news bulletin which was broadcast to players. Post-exercise, detailed feedback was given to each interviewee.
CARE International
When CARE International decided to run a major exercise during which teams of volunteers had to respond to an imaginary disaster, they called in Crown Media.
Our teams produced a TV news bulletin to be played at the start of the event so everybody knew what was happening. During the course of the exercise, teams were confronted by journalists as they tried to deal with casualties.
The experience gave volunteers a true taste of what they might expect to encounter during a real-life emergency as they struggled to deal casualties.
“Your input was essential in creating and demonstrating a realistic multi-agency response.“
